Her doctoral thesis focused on the politics of making and breaking national identity in Pakistan through the use of history textbooks. Mariam has two Masters’ degrees from Harvard University, in International Education Policy and Education Policy and Management, and a Bachelors in Political Science from Rice University.
Mariam founded the Harvard Pakistan Student Group (HPSG) in 2009 with a community of less than 20 students. She is now based in Pakistan, working as Country Director Pakistan for Harvard University South Asia Institute and as Associate Director, School of Education Project at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).
